Japan and Korea Node

Introduction

The Japan/Korea node of the ARC Asia Pacific Futures Network is convened by Professor Purnendra Jain from the University of Adelaide.

The Japan/Korea node is currently accepting applications for small projects.

Projects funded in 2006

  • Performance and Text: Gender Identities in the East and Southeast Asian Context - Contribution towards airfares and accommodation for guest speaker at the conference (Barbara Hartley - University of Queensland).
  • Workshop on the NARA treaty between Australia and Japan for the Australian Institute of International Affairs and the AJRC - Assistance with costs (Trevor Wilson - Australian National University).
  • Japan Relates: Australia, Asia and the world - Funding for early career researchers and postgraduate students (Alison Tokita - Monash University).

Projects funded in 2005

  • Gendering Governance and Security Workshop- support for postgraduates and early career researchers to participate (Professor Vera Mackie - University of Melbourne ).
  • The Asia Pacific Regional Migration Forum - support was given to early career researchers to participate (Professor Tessa Morris-Suzuki - Australian National University).
  • Mass-media, Gender and Democracy in Germany and Japan - Accommodation for visiting professors and three student conference registrations (Alison Tokita - Monash University)

Node meetings

The Japan/Korea Node held its first meeting in Sydney on April 15, 2005. A range of issues, including the present state of Japanese and Korean studies, as well as the role that the APFN will play, were discussed.

The second meeting will be held in early 2007.

Application process for funding from Japan/Korea Node

The Japan/Korea Node of the APFN invites applications for projects focusing on Japan and/or Korea. The node can fund a project up to around $3000. Applications will be assessed by a small group of members drawn from the Japan/Korea nodal advisory committee.

Initiatives which involve

  • supporting postgraduate students and early career researchers
  • cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional and cross-regional perspectives will be highly regarded.
