South Asia Node

The South Asia node convenor is Professor Sisira Jayasuriya of LaTrobe University. The Node operates the South Asia Research Facility which is funded by AusAid.

Projects funded in 2006

  • Landscapes of Meaning conference (Dr Heather Goodall – UTS)
  • ASSA/UNESCO Australia Workshop on Migration Challenges in the Asia-Pacific in the 21st century (Profs Amarjit Kaur, UNE; Tessa Morris-Suzuki, ANU; Ian Metcalfe, UNE)

Projects funded in 2007

  • First Australian National Sanskrit conference(Drs McComas Taylor, ANU; Anita Ray, LTU; Jennifer Cover, Sydney)
  • Democracy, Development and Civil Society in India Conference (Drs Pradeep Taneja and Salim Lakha, MU)
  • A special nodal conference on Historiography and the Question of Non-Western Pasts (Dr Sanjay Seth, LTU)

Application process for funding from the South Asia Node

The South Asia Node invites applications for 2009 for workshops/conferences focusing on South Asia. The Node can fund a project up to around $3,000.

Initiatives will be particularly highly regarded if they support

  • Postgraduate students and early career researchers
  • Cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional and cross-regional perspectives

Deadline of applications: COB Friday, 7 November 2008.
